Through collaborations between landowners and researchers in the Las Piedras region of the Madre de Dios, we have developed a working relationship that allows for regular study of a mixed-use rainforest system. Our research at these sites is focused on understanding the impacts and effects of sustained intermediate land-use scenarios on vertebrate communities. Sites feature a range of habitats, from tracts of mature tera firme forest to aguajal mauritia palm swamps. Sites are typically entered on a daily basis, although on-site extended stays are possible but require coordination with land owners.
